The villages of Tulla, Broadford & Feakle are surrounded by some 30 to 40 lakes collectively referred to as the East Clare Lakelands. They are grouped between the River Fergus & Lakes to the west and Lough Derg to the east. Limerick City to the southeast is just a short drive away. Shannon Airport is also only a relatively short drive from this rural heartland.

WHERE TO FISH  

This is a large coarse angling area with many lakes developed  by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board in terms of access and facilities. There are also a number of lakes with wheelchair  facilities for disabled anglers.  In addition, Tulla and District Coarse Angling Association are very actively involved in development programmes for the area in collaboration with the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board. 

The Irish Specimen Fish Committee frequently verify specimen caught fish from the system. In 2002, 14 tench of 26 in total from around Ireland were verified by the committee in this area. Of those 14 , 7 tench were verified from Lakyle alone. Specimens are produced year in year out on a number of these fisheries, some go un-reported.

Over 40 lakes and rivers of varying sizes are dotted throughout East Clare. An angling area that has been well developed over the years, it is situated in unspoilt, peaceful countryside. Each water has its own wild, natural charm and special features that make a daylong visit seem like only a short while. The area is most popular for pike and coarse fishing with abundant stocks of pike, bream, tench, rudd, roach and perch in most waters. Wild brown trout fishing is available in some of the remote hillside loughs. Most waters are very accessible with car parking close by, and purpose-built fishing stands have been erected on some lakes to provide greater ease of access and comfortable fishing.
The following are some of the classic waters that have been developed in recent years. Lough Bridget (or Silvergrove), a short distance from Tulla, its 90 acres are fitted out with 30 fishing stands immediately off the lakeside car park. Specimen tench have been recorded at Bridget and there is very good fishing for bream, roach, pike and perch.
Doon Lake is another gem, alongside the road near the village of Broadford. This lake is very accessible with lots of natural bank fishing space. Doon Lake is a coarse fishing haven but it's noted mainly as a pike fishery and has produced some fine quality pike over recent years. Boats are available for hire closeby.
Although all the lakes in East Clare are set in beautiful, peaceful countryside the location of Kilgory Lake is superb. It's 70 acres, set in picturesque woodlands and bogland, flanked by heather hills, exude magical isolation. The lake has 22 causeway fishing stands of stone, extending outside the reeded edges. Kilgory is primarily a bream fishery.
For the tench specialist Roslara Lake, which is also close by Tulla. is worth exploring, Tulla, Broadford, Scarriff and Feakle are noted angling centres in East Clare.
